Shaun Pal, DDS, briefly explains 'problem-focused' dentistry, how it differs from general dentistry, and why it may be appropriate in certain situations.
Here at STL Urgent Dental, if a patient comes in and we have localized tooth pain, you know we are going to treat what that patient comes in for. With that being said, we hear all the times about patients going into other offices and then they come out with these massive treatment plans. We try to stay away from that here.
We don't want to comprehensively treatment plan things; we try to stay problem-focused and limited to that problem, so we can really specialize in on that problem. If there are various other issues going on, we will address them. That may be in the manner of necessary referrals to different doctors, whether the patient needs a full time general dentist or not.
We'll always be available for them if they need us, but like I said, our main goal here is to stay problem-focused and treat the issue at hand of why that patient came in through the door that night.
